Samuel W. Martin died Wednesday morning at 11:30 o'clock, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Samuel Groves in Terra Haute, where he had lived the past five or six years, aged 78 years, 5 months and 5 days. He had been ill much of the time for the past year having suffered two strokes of paralysis, and it is thought a third attack completed its work. The body arrived in Covington overland this morning and was taken to the home of his daughter, Mrs. Claude Doane where funeral services will be held at 2 pm today, interment following in Mt. Hope, besides the remains of his wife who died about twelve years ago. Samuel Watkins Martin was a son Isiah and Hepsa B. Cross-Martin and was born in Covington where he spent his life, January 20, 1846. Here he grew to manhood and was united in marriage to Miss Lucy Cole to which union three children, John W., Mrs. Emma Grove and Mrs. C. E. Doane, all of whom survive, were born, together with seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. When the war of the sixties came on he enlisted in the Union army, serving three years, and was a member of the G.A.R. Post in this city. Returning home at the close of the war he entered in his trade of carpenter and painter until his health prevented its pursuits.
