Source: The obituary is from a collection by Fauniel Hershberger, saved the 1950's, 60's and 70's. She was a life long resident of Fountain County Indiana.  The collection is now housed at Crawfordsville District Public Library.

Samuel J. Martin, age 88, almost a life resident of the Covington community, died at 10 a. m. Monday, May 27, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Danville where he had been admitted a few minutes earlier. He had been ill for the past two weeks and death was attributed to a heart condition. Mr. Martin was born Sept. 30, 1874 in Wabash Twp., south of Covington, the son of Wilson and Mary Ellen Abernathy Martin. He was married April 21, 1906 to Nina V. Goudy. He was a retired farmer and had spent most of his life in this community, Fountain an Vermillion counties. Two years ago he left Covington to make his home with a daughter, Mrs. Mary M. Lewin, at 601 Wayne St., in Danville. He was particularly fond of flowers and raised many of them as well as garden produce. He was a member of the Christian Church at Rossville, Ill., and was a member of the old Odd Fellows Lodge of Covington. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. today, May 29, at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home. Roger James, pastor of the First Church of Christ, Fifth St., officiated and burial was in Mt.
