Funeral services for Mrs. Mattie Steele Martin, age 74, a resident of 1003 Second St., who died at 11:45 o'clock Wednesday night, Dec. 12, were held at 2 p. m. Friday at the Hegg Funeral Home here. The Rev. Glenn Ray officiated and burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Mrs. Martin was stricken ill about 4:30 p. m. Wednesday and was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital, Danville, where she succumbed. She had resided for the past 20 years at her present address. Mrs. Martin was well known throughout the area, having operated "Steele's Chicken Dinners" for many years. She was born May 28, 1886, in Tennessee, the daughter of Sam and Margaret Lyons Steele. She was married Oct. 16, 1933 to McMannomy Martin, who preceded her in death in 1950. Survivors include a brother, Charles Steele of Indianapolis and a step-daughter, Mrs. Maxine Mourtel of Skokie, Ill. Pallbearers were: John Mortell, Clarence Wait, John Myers, John Hayden, Wisher Myers and Jim Wright. --typed by Walt W
