Mrs. Madalena Mary (Lena) Martin, age 90, of Covington Rt. 1, a resident of Fountain County since she was four years old, died Thursday morning, March 11, at her home in the Stringtown community. She had been in failing health six and one-half years and seriously ill two months. A native of Nannce, France, Mrs. Martin was born Sept. 14, 1874, the daughter of Giacomo and Catherine Marca Berto. She was married July 16, 1899 to Elmer Martin, who preceded her in death March 4, 1945. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Covington and a former member of the Pythian Sisters. Mrs. Martin is survived by: three sons, Lawrence R. Martin of Covington Rt. 1, Freeman R. Martin of Crawfordsville and Clayton R. Martin of Covington; two sisters, Mrs. Ida Allen and Mrs. Anna Allen., both of Covington Rt. 1; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home in Covington. The Rev. Donald Vernon, pastor of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, officiated. Burial was in the Snoddy Cemetery, south of Covington, where the Rev. Stephen High conducted graveside rites. Pallbearers were Millard Allen, Darrell Allen, Chancey Riggs, Frank Jarred, Leo Jarred and Francis Dewlen.  --typed by Walt W

Funeral services for Mrs. Magdalena Mary Martin, aged 90, and a native of France, were held at 1 p.m. Saturday Mar. 13, at the Bodine and Shelby Funeral Home.  She died at her home on Covington Route 1 in the Stringtown community Thursday morning after having lived in Fountain county since age 4.
She was born Sept. 14, 1874, the daughter of Giacomo and Catherine Marca Berto in France.  She was married July 16, 1899  to Elmer Martin who died March 4, 1945.  She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Covington.
Survivors are three sons, Lawrence R., Covington Route 1, Freeman R., of Crawfordsville, and Clayton R. Martin of Covington.   Two sisters, Mrs. Ida Allen and Mrs. Anna Allen, both of Covington R. 1, two grandchildren and two great -grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive.  She was pre-deceased by a sister and two brothers.
Rev. Donald Vernon officiated at the funeral, and Rev. Stephen High conducted rites at the grave in the Snoddy Cemetery.
