Mrs. Laura Bertha Martin, age 71, life-resident of Covington and community, died at 5:45 p. m. Saturday, April 9, at Lakeview Memorial Hospital, Danville, where she had been a patient for one day. She was born Nov. 1, 1889 in Covington, the daughter of Charles and Calista Evelyn Harris Martin. She was married Nov. 19, 1915 to James Edward Martin, and he preceded her in death July 11, 1926. She was a member of the Wabash Chapel Church and was a resident of Covington until two years ago when she went to make her home with her daughter, Mrs. Judy Maxine Smalley, Danville Rt. 3. Mrs. Martin is survived by one son, Raymond Martin of Covington Rt. 1; her daughter, Mrs. Smalley; five grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Mary Volkel of Perrysville Rt. 1; and one brother, Dale Martin of New Mexico. She was preceded in death by one brother and four daughters. Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home. The Rev. Gerald Babb officiated and burial was in Hicks Cemetery. --typed by Walt W
