JOHN W. MARTIN, familiarly known as “Shoaf” died in Covington Saturday. He had been in his usual health and was sweeping the sidewalk in front of the McMahan saloon when he suddenly and without warning to anyone reeled and fell. A physician was called but nothing could be done. Paralysis was the immediate cause. He died at 11 o’clock at the county house. He was a familiar character about the county seat and lived in a small hut east of the Big Four elevator. He was 62 years old. – thanks to S&E
