Jacob (Jake) Martin, age 79, a farmer and life resident of the Salem community, north east of Covington, died at 5:35 a. m. Friday, Feb. 2, in the St. Elizabeth Hospital, Danville, Ill. Mr. Martin was born July 20, 1882, in the Salem community, the son of John Samuel and Tursey Jane Alkire Martin. He was married in 1908 to Jessie Gertrude Price, who died in 1930. Mr. Martin was later married on Nov. 4, 1936, to Maude Broughs Witsman, who survives. He was a member of the Salem Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Ruth A. Brown of Covington; a son, Virgil R. of Cherry Point, N. C.; a step-daughter, Mrs. Beulah Morgan of Indianapolis; a brother, Edward of Indianapolis; a sister, Mrs. Virgie Trott of Veedersburg Rt. 2; and two grandsons. He also was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters. Funeral services were held at 2 p. m. Sunday, Feb. 4, at the Salem Methodist Church. The Rev. Dale Owens officiated. Burial was in the Mt. Hope Cemetery with the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home in charge. Pallbearers were: Leopold Laube, Finney Stucker, Charles Trott, Jr., Morris Martin, Russell Woodrow and John Dewlen. --typed by Walt W
