Source: 21 March 1916 CovIngton Republican Hezekiah Martin dies at age 97, Fountain County's oldest citizen passed away Sunday morning

Covington - March 20 - Having lived nearly a century, Hezekiah Martin, Ft Co's oldest citizen expired Sunday mornning at 2:30 o'clock at h is home here. He was born October 14, 1818 in Lee Co VA near Leesburg and was 97 years 5 months 5 days. He came with his parents to Scott Co IN in 1821 and in 1832 came to Covington where he has lived ever since. In August 1845, he married Zerelda E. Adkins who died Dec 11, 1899 at age 77 years. The deceased is survived by three sons, John D, a veteran of the Civil War, Attorney John B, and Julian M. Martin all of this city. Hezekiah Martin was a remarkable man in many ways and probably there is no other man in the state of his age that was so active and required so little attention from others. He was a great reader of books, magazines and newspapers and enjoyed the best of health. Two days before his death he was able to walk anywhere about the house and was frequentlly see on the downtown streets alone. His extreme age always made him a conspicuous figure. He retained his full mental powers to the very last, cnoversing fluently with friends and relatives on all subjexts of public interst. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and the funeral will be held at the church at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon; Dr HK Fox of Dayton will officiate. Bur Mt Mount Hope, Covington.

Covington March 19 Kazakia MARTIN 97, the oldest citizen of Covington is dead at his home here from infirmities of age. Three sons, John B, JM and Jehu D. Martin survive.
