MARSHALL, William Thompson - CW

William Thompson Marshall was born in Orange Co, Indiana, April 27, 1843.  He removed with his parents, when a small  boy to Parke Co., Indiana where he grew to manhood.  The first day of July 1863 he was enrolled in Company C. 116th  Ind Regiment and was mustered out the 18th day of March 1864 at Lafayette.   He was united in marriage to Sophonia E. Broden, August 23, 1868 and to this union was born four children, three of whom with the mother have passed to the great beyond.  He was again united in marriage to Carrie C. Calhonn Sept. 9 1894 and to them was born one child  which died in infancy.   His second wife died December 9 1899.

He united with the Friends church at Rush Creek in Parke Co. and retained a membership there until his death.  He moved to Wingate in 1896 and has lived a quiet life as a citizen of the village.   He departed this life Dec. 5 1907, aged 64 years 7 months and 8 days.   He leaves to mourn his loss, two sisters  Mrs. James Bannon and Mrs. O. A. Newnum of Wingate and one daughter Mrs. Melvin Brown of Bloomingdale.   His deceased children were, Levina Ann Marshall,  born July 19 1869 died Aug. 13, 1887;  James Elvet, born May 15, 1879 died May 19, 1886 and John David, born February 10, 1875 who died in infancy. The funeral was preached at the Christian church Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock by Rev. J. C. Francis.   Interment in the Pleasant Hill cemetery. -s
