Malissa Marshall the widow of the late Honorable Andrew Marshall, died at her home in Veedersburg Dec 7, 1914 in less than one year after the death of her husband who departed life on Dec 23, 1913. She was too young to die, not yet having reached the allotted three score and ten years. She was yet active and able to make a good home for her sons and a place of shelter and of welcome retreat for her friends and relatives. For 48 years she has kept that home with a devotion and a vigilance only possible to a good woman. The following obituary was read by Rev. HW Robbins at the funeral services. Malissa Marshall was born in Mill Creek Township, Fountain County, Indiana Nov 5, 1846 and departed this life at her home in Veedersburg Dec 7, 1914 at the hour of 12:15 p.m. aged 68 years 1 months and 2 days. She was the eldest daughter of Amariah and Caroline Elwell and grew into womanhood on her fathers farm west of Yeddo, Indiana; she is survived by five brothers and sisters Jane Adams of Independence, Ks; Sylvester h. Elwell of Yeddo; Malinda Philpott of Yeddo; Julia E. Martin of Crawfordsville; Joseph Grant Elwell of Leon KS and Maude L. Corey of Indianapolis, Ind. On the 3rd day of May 1865 she was united in marriage to the late Honorable ANdrew Marshall, who died on the 23rd of December 1913; to this union were born five sons and one daughter. The daughter, Juretta died in infancy; Captian Ellsowrth, the eldest son also died deaprting this life in Feb 1906 at the marine hospital near Roswell, NM. Four devoted sons survive her John W; Lawrence O; William A and Lloyd P the last named residing in thefar west and could not be present during the last sickness and death of his mother. Mrs. Marshall was a devoted christian woman and united with the United Brethren Church, early in life at Harveysburg, Indiana and was transferred to the same denominatino in Veedersburg 1863. SHe possessed all the chrisian qualities, and exerted all her best influences as a wife and mother, and was deeply loved by all her acquaintances. Mrs. Marshall has been in declining health for the past year and about 3 weeks ago was stricken with pneumonia. She rallied from the first attack of the disease but on Saturday she suddenly became worse and the community was shocked when her death was announced. Funeral services were held at the UB church at 10 a.m. Wednesday Dec 9, 1914 after which the body was laid to rest in Rockfield Cemetery.
