MARQUESS, John L.

John L. Marquess, 76 of 2411 Underwood Street, the Republican constable of Fairfield Township died at 8:30 a.m. Friday in St. Elizabeth Hospital, where he was a patient since Dec 2.  He had been ill eight weeks. He came here in 1912 from Fountain County where he was born and reared. He married Grace A. Cole in Warren County in 1910.  After 23 years as yard foreman for Korty Coal Co, Mr. Marquess was a guard at the plant of the Duncan Electric Co and retired in 1955.  After that he was a guard for the Egyptian Lacquer Co and Public Service Co. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and 30-year member of Eagles Lodge 347.  Surviving with the widow are two daughters, Mrs. William Crossley of Melrose Park, Ill and Mrs. David Skiles of Rossville and three sons, Roy B and Harold V of Lafayette and John C. of Evansville.

Marquess, John L. – Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. Sunday at Soller-Baker Funeral Home. Eagles rites there at 7:30 p.m. Sunday. Services at 1:30 p.m. Monday in Soller-Baker Main Chapel, the Rev. Randall A. Corkern officiating; interment in Spring Vale Cemetery.  Eight grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren survive. - kbz
