Williamsport ā€“ James C. Marquess, 83 of Rt 1, Williamsport died at 1 a.m. Friday in Community  Hospital, Williamsport.  He had been in ill health 8 weeks. Born in Portland Arch, Fountain County, he attended Portland Arch School. He had lived there and in the Briscoe are the past 52 years. Mr. Marquess formerly owned and operated a service station at Briscoe. He had also been engaged in farming. A veteran of WWI, he served in the Navy. He was a member of Portland Arch Christian Church and Boswell Masonic Lodge. His marriage was in 1944 at Kentland to Hazel Ehresman and she survives. Surviving with the widow are three sisters, Mrs. Herbert (Florence) Balser of Williamsport, Mrs. Willis T. McMaster and Mrs. Mary Sipes, of Danville, Ill. - kz

James C. Marquess of RR 1, Williamsport, age 83, died Friday, July 30, in Williamsport Community Hospital. He was born at Portland Arch, March 22, 1899, the son of William K. and Kathryn E. Helms Marquess. July 29, 1944, he married Hazel Ehresman, who survives. A Navy veteran of World War I, he had lived in the Briscoe community for 52 years and had operated a gas station and farmed. Marquess was a member of Portland Arch Christian Church and Boswell Masonic Lodge.
  Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Herbert Balser of Williamsport, Mrs. Willis McMaster and Mrs. Mary Sipes, both of Danville, Illinois.
  Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at Maus Funeral Home in Attica with Rev. Don Williams officiating. Burial was in Rainsville Cemetery. ā€“ thanks so much to ā€œSā€
