Wingate – Carolyn M. Funk Marquess, 76 of Wingate died at 9:20 a.m. Wednesday Jan 9, 2008 at Seton Specialty Hospital, Lafayette due to complications from a fall at her residence in December.  Born in Fountain Cunty on Oct 28, 1931 she was the daughter of the late George L. and Clara Mounts Funk.  She graduated from Wingate HS in 1950. She married William E. “Bill” Marquess in Wingate and he survives. Mrs. Marquess was a teacher’s aide at Coal Creek School and then worked at the former Hi-Tek in Crawfordsville. She was a member of Pleasant Hill UCC in Wingate and formerly belonged to Order of Eastern Star. She enjoyed reading, traveling and being on the back of her husband’s motorcycle or in a car. Surviving along with her husband are a son Billy (wife: Tammy) of Crawfordsville; three daughters, Tina Walden of Wingate and Cheryl McIlrath (husband: Rob) and Connie Harshbarger (husband: Tom) both of Crawfordsville, a sister Christine “Teenie” Bane of Wingate. Mrs. Marquess attended and supported her grandchildren’s activites and just generally enjoyed being a mother, grandmother and great grandmother. To her great grandchildren Jaycee & Mayson she was known as Hoo-hoo 2 and on Saturday morning could usually be found at Uncle Smiley’s with her family. She is survived by six grandchildren: Monica Calder; Megan (John) Roche; Ryan Walden; Clint Calder; Emily McIlrath and Ali Marquess; stepgrandchildren, Mike (Bobbie) Harshbarger, Stacey Harshbarger Fruits; Ben Fuchs; Aubrey & Alexis Miller; great grandchildren: Jaycee Walden and Jamyson Roche; four step great grandchildren: Hannah & Ian Harshbarger; Alec Fruits and Ava Dwigans. She was preceded in death by sister, Catherine Gross. Friends may call 4-8 p.m. Friday Jan 11 at Family & Friends Funeral Home at Wingate. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, pastor Joe Perry officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Wingate.
