Source: The obituary is from a collection by Fauniel Hershberger, saved the 1950's, 60's and 70's. She was a life long resident of Fountain County Indiana.  The collection is now housed at Crawfordsville District Public Library.

Alfred Dale Marquess, 78, of Attica Route 2, died Sunday, Aug 26, 1973 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Danville. He had been seriously ill three week following a two-year illness. Born near Portland Arch, Ind., April 30, 1895 he was the son of William K. and Kathryn E. Helms Marquess. He had been a resident of Attica Route 2, for about 20 years and had resided in the Fountain and Warren area all his life He had farmed near Kramer. He was married May 31, 1931, in Warren County to Gertrude J. Perrin, who died in 1936. Mr. Marquess had served in the Army in World War I and was a member of the Fountain Christian Church and American Legion. Survivors include two daughters Mrs. Charles (Mary) Buck of Attica route 2, with whom he made his home and Mrs. Kenneth (Shirley) Middleton of Hollywood Fla.; three sister, Mrs. Hebert Balser of Williamsport Route 2, Mrs. Willis Key McMaster and Mrs. Mary Sipes, both of Danville; a brother, James Marquess of Williamsport Route 1, seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Three brothers and a sister preceded him in death. Services at the Maus Chapel with the Rev, Melvin Nead officiating. Burial in Rainsville Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be by American Legion Post 259 of Williamsport. – jlr
