Veedersburg – Mont E. Marlatt, age 85 of Danville, Ill, a native of the Veedersburg community and a retired railroader, died at 10:10 a.m. Monday Jan 6 (199) at the Danville Care Nursing Home where he had been a patient since Nov 14.  He had been in ill health several months.  Mr. Marlatt was born April 12, 1883 April 12, 1883 on a farm near Veedersburg, the son of Tobian and Mary Brissey Marlatt. He was married in 1916 at Terre Haute to Mary Ann Toner who preceded him in death Oct 31, 1963. He was first employed by the Nickel Plate Railroad at Veedersburg and later by the NY Central Railroad. He went to Danville in 1933 and was employed by the C&EI as a brakeman and retired as a conductor July 31, 1956.  He was a member of Anchor Masonic Lodge 980 and the Danville Scottish-Rite; He attended the St. James Methodist Church and was a member of the Old Rails and New Ties and the Order of Railroad Conductors and Brakeman Local 127.  Surviving are two sons, Wayne E and Charles L both of Danville; two daughters, Mrs. MD (Betty) Jones of Onarga, Ill; and Mrs. EE (Meg) Alphers of Alpena, Mich; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and two brothers.  Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Lakeside Funeral Chapel in Danville, Dr. Richard Newhall officiated and burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery. Masonic services were held at the funeral home Thursday evening. – kbz
