Fred Hayes Maris, age 87, a resident of Covington since 1920, died this morning, Wednesday, at 7:00 o'clock at the Britton Nursing Home where he had been a patient since May of 1962. He had been ill for 3 years. He was born Aug, 28, 1876, the son of Thomas and Lena Swaim Maris, in Marshall, Ind. Mr. Maris was married March 6, 1901 to Eliza Jane Davis, who preceded him in death Aug. 1950. He moved to Covington from Rockville in 1920. Mr. Maris ran his own barber shop in Covington for 55 years and retired in March, 1961. He was a member of the Covington Presbyterian Church and Modern Woodman Lodge. Survivors include a daughter Mrs. Trilby Blair of Covington and a son, Davis Maris of Danville, Ill.; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter in Sept. 1940, two brothers and one sister. The body is here at the Hegg Funeral Home where friends may call after noon Friday. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 30 at the funeral home. The Rev. George Beatty will officiate and burial will be in Bethany Cemetery at Marshall, Ind. --typed by Walt W
