Davis C. Maris, 61, Danville Route 4, was dead on arrival at 3 p.m. yesterday (Sept. 11, 1968) at St. Elizabeth Hospital after being stricken ill at home. Death was from natural causes. He had lived at the Route 4 address for 18 years. Born Sept. 9, 1907, in Marshall, Ind., he was a son of Fred Hayes and Eliza Jane Davis Maris. He attended Rockville and Covington schools and Indiana State University at Terre Haute. He was a graduate of the St. Louis School of Aeronautics. Maris operated a restaurant in Covington until entering the Air Force in World War II. After the war he operated restaurants in Covington and Danville until retiring in 1947 because of ill health. He was married Oct. 31, 1942, in St. Charles Mo., to Irena Sexton, who survives. Also surviving is a sister, Mrs. Trilby Blair of Covington. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister. Mr. Maris was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Covington. He was a former member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion Post 210 and the Danville Art League. His hobbies were cutting of gems and rocks and wood carving. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Pape Memorial Home. The Rev. Joe C. Detamore will officiate. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery. Friends will be received at the funeral home 6-9 tonight. - jlr
