Mrs. Laura Bell Mapes, age 75, a resident of the West Liberty community on Covington Rt. 1, for the past 23 years, died at 11:45 p. m. Sunday, May 21, at the Westbrook Nursing home in Crawfordsville where she had been a patient since May 10. Born Nov. 1, 1885, in Louisville, Ky., she was the daughter of Roscoe and Elizabeth Dean Langford. She was married Feb. 24, 1904, to Leonard Daniel Mapes, who survives. Mrs. Mapes was a member of the West Lebanon First Church of Christ. She had resided in Ohio from 1913 to 1929 when she moved to West Lebanon. Mrs. Mapes moved to the West Liberty community in 1938. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Mrs. Maudie Twigg of Danville and Mrs. Carrie Schefke of Covington Rt. 1; a son, Walter of Columbus; four brothers, Charlie of Chrisman, Ernest of Indianapolis, Fred of Metcalf and Lawrence of Paris; a sister, Ruth; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter and two brothers. Funeral services were held here today, May 24, at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home, with the Rev. Alfred Dobbs officiating.
