Veedersburg -- Virgil Ernest Maltsberger, 72, of Rt. 1, Veedersburg, died at 7 p.m. Wednesday at his home. He had been in failing health seven years and was seriously ill six months. Mr. Maltsberger was a life-long resident of Fountain County and was a retired farmer, retiring in 1956 because of failing health. He was born March 18, 1897 near Waynetown, son of William David and Lillie Little Maltsberger. He was married Jan. 1, 1914 to Zula Frankeberger. Survivors include the widow; a son, Robert (Bob) Maltsberger of Rt. 2, Veedersburg, and a grandson, Merlin Maltsberger, a student at Purdue University. The body was taken to Bodine and Shelby Funeral Home at Covington where friends may pay their respects after 1 p.m. Friday. Funeral services are announced for 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Rev. Alfred Dobbs and Rev. Thomas Stapp officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Virgil Ernest Maltsberger, 72, Veedersburg Route 1, prominent retired farmer and lifetime resident of Fountain County, died at 7 o'clock Wednesday night, Sept. 25, at his country home after seven years of ill heath. His condition had been serious for the last six months.
Mr. Maltsberger was born in the Waynetown vicinity on March 18, 1891, the son of William and Lillie Little Maltsberger, farm people. He was married to Zula Frankeberger on Jan. 1, 1913, and she survives as do one son, Robert, of Veedersburg route 2, and a grandson, Merlin, a student at Purdue University.
Friends may call at the Bodine and Shelby Funeral Home in Covington after 1 pm. today, Friday.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, conducted jointly by Rev. Alfred Dobbs of Veedersburg and Rev. Thomas Stapp of Cates. Interment will take place in Mt. Hope Cemetery Covington. - jz
