MELLOT -- Miss Bertha Mahan, 63, sister of Amos Mahan of near Mellott, died at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday at a hospital in Girard, Kan., where she had been a patient for almost a year. Miss Mahan had visited frequently with her brother and his family near Mellott. Her brother is a retired schoolteacher in the area. She was also a schoolteacher for 36 years and was forced to retire about a year ago due to ill health. She had been in Kansas since that time under the care of her brother, Ernest Mahan, and family of Pittsburg, Kan. Born Oct. 2, 1902, at West Baden, Ind., she was the daughter of Andrew and Rena Mahan. She was a member of the Church of Christ near West Baden. She was also a member of the West Baden Order of Eastern Star, Psi Iota Xi Sorority and the PEO Sisterhood. Survivors include the two brothers. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at the Ritter Funeral Home at French Lick, Ind. Burial will be in Ames Cemetery near there.  --typed by Walt W
