MAFFETT, Elmer Charles - Fountain County INGenWeb Project

VEEDERSBURG—E. Charles Massett (sic), 95, retired farmer, grocer and carpenter, died at 11 p.m. Saturday in Robert Long Hospital in Indianapolis after suffering head injuries in a fall at his home earlier in the evening. He was born Sept. 6, 1870, in Nicholas County, Ky., to Josiah and Elizabeth Speigel Massett. He was married to Ladoska Dearing Oct. 21, 1897. He had lived in the Veedersburg area since 1893 and was a member of the New Liberty Christian Church and Masonic Lodge of Veedersburg for more than 50 years. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Theodore Grubbs of Covington; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren and a niece. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Fishero Funeral Home in Veedersburg. Rev. James Dyson will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Covington. VEEDERSBURG -- Charles Moffett (sic), oldest male resident of Veedersburg, will celebrate his 95th birthday anniversary Monday, Sept. 6. There will be no observance of the date due to the condition of health of Mr. and Mrs. Moffett. A native of Kentucky, he came to the Veedersburg community as a young man and was engaged in farming for a number of years. He later operated a grocery and meat market in Veedersburg and did carpenter work and painting. He continues to be active by mowing his lawn and caring for flowers and a vegetable garden. A year or so ago he painted his one-story house and through the years has always taken time to help a neighbor in need. He also walks to town to do grocery shopping. His marriage to Miss Dot Dearing was 67 years ago, in fact they will observe their 68th wedding anniversary in October this year. The couples only child is a daughter, Mrs. Eva Grubbs of Covington. They also have several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
