Mark Furr, a prominent farmer and horseman is dead at his home in Richland Twp, two miles west of Mellott.  Mr. Furr has been an invalid for over five years and most of that time has been confined to his home.  At one time he was regarded as the most prominent breeder of draft and show horses in this section of the country.  For 39 years of his life, Mr. Furr’s horses carried away the ribbons from all the fairs and horseshows, throughout the country.  Mr. Furr is survived by his wife and five children and also by three sisters.  The children are William Furr, principal of HS at Jacksonville, Ill; Mrs. Freeman Foxworthy and Frank Furr of Newtown, Ira Furr at home and a daughter at Logansport.  The sisters are Mrs. Sina Inlow of Kingman; Mrs. Samp Strader of Mellott and Mrs. Frank Pogue of Minnesota.  Funeral services were held from Union Christian Church Saturday morning at 10:30 o’clock conducted by Rev. Bailey of Mellott.  --- kbz

Marcus Furr who we reported last week as being very much worse died at his home two miles west of Mellott last Thursday.  A little over four years ago he received a stroke of paralysis from which he never recovered  being confined to his bed all that time.  He was born Feb 26, 1838 died on March 11, 1915 aged 77 years and 11 days.  He was married to Sarah A. Justice in 1859.  She died Aug 10, 1875.  He was again married to Isabelle Bodly who with Mark lived for several years northeast of Covington. They moved to a farm southeast of ? Ill,,,,?? Ira, Frank, Grace and Mrs. Goldie Raybourne.  He united with the Christian Union Church several years ago but later transferred his membership to the Mellott Christian Church.  Uncle Mark, as he was familiarly called was a lover of fine horses and for many years he attended all the county fairs with his strong of fancy horses.  He was fond of little children and especially those in his immediate family.  He was generous to a fault. The funeral was held Saturday morning at the Union Christian Church by Rev. HL Bailey and the remains laid to rest in the cemetery adjoining.  –--- kbz
