Mrs. Elizabeth Furr, oldest resident of Montgomery County remarked on her 102nd Birthday Anniversary that she did not even feel like she was a hundred years old. Mrs. Furr was a resident of this vicinity several years ago when she and her husband, Frank Furr, who died April 6, 1933, resided on a farm in the Ingersoll Chapel neighborhood.
Mrs. Furr resides in the Shahan Nursing Home in Crawfordsville, having been a patient there for the past six years. She spends most of her time in bed because a twice broken hip has left her immobile. Her memory is excellent, though she is virtually blind and has difficulty hearing. She sat in a chair and posed for a photography to take her picture on her 102nd birthday, saying she wanted to turn to the side a bit as she looked better in a profile.
She remembers as a child of hearing her father tell of the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. Mrs. Furr is a charter member of the old Ingersoll Chapel Church and at present is a member of the Waynetown Christian Church. Mrs. Furr was born December 12, 1856 on a farm 4½ miles south of Waynetown, the daughter of William and Sophia Sheeley Fletcher, who came to Indiana from Ohio. She is the last of a family of ten children.
She was in surprisingly good spirits on her birthday as she starts her 103rd year. - jz
