Barbara J. Furr Becomes Tippecanoe's 3rd Fatality
Barbara J. Furr, 19, of Rt. 8 Lafayette, died 6 p.m. Sunday at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Layfayette, seven hours after a single car accident in Tippecanoe County.
Miss Furr was headed west on the Lily Road when she lost control of her car on the west Wee Creek bridge and traveled 20 feet down an embankment. She died of head and chest injuries. Two of her brothers who were passengers were also injured and taken to Home Hospital in Lafayette. Sandy Lee Furr, 21, was thrown through the windshield, and Gerald Furr, 15, suffered abrasions.
Miss Furr's death is recorded as the third fatality in Tippecanoe County this year.
She was born in Crawfordsville on May 29, 1950, the daughter of Leroy C. and Norma M. Snodgrass Furr. She had lived on Lafayette Rt. 8 the past six years and prior to that had lived in Newton for 13 years, and before that had lived in Veedersburg,
She graduated from Southwestern High School with the class of 1968, and since her graduation, had been employed at CTS Research in the McClure Research Park at Purdue University. She was a member of the Baptist Church at Newton and was to have been married in April.
Miss Furr is survived by her parents .............. Fla., Sandy Lee, Gary, Gerald, all at home and the paternal grandmother, Mrs. .... Furr, Newton.
Friends will be received at DeSui... Funeral Home after 4 p.m. Tuesday, Funeral services will be held in the DeSutter Chapel 2 p.m. Wednesday, with Rev. George E. Phelps, pastor of the Newton Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in the Newton Cemetery with DeSutter Funeral Home in charge.
