ATTICA, Ind. (CNS) -- J. E. Fry, 77, Attica businessman for 25 years prior to his retirement in 1966, died at 10:40 p.m. yesterday (Sept. 17, 1969) at the Alward Nursing Home. He had been a patient there for 20 months and in failing health for three years. Born Keytesville, Mo., Sept. 27, 1891, he was the son of William C. and Alice Grubb Fry. He attended school in Keytesville and Weaubleau, Mo., and graduated from Union Christian College in Merom, Ind. He taught at the school after graduation. Following this, he served as minister for the Christian Congregational Churches in various Indiana and Illinois towns. He was minister of the Mellott, Ind., Church for five years. In 1929, he entered the insurance business and continued in this occupation until his retirement. He also operated a real estate agency in Attica. On May 19, 1946, he married Vivian M. Plough, who survives. Also surviving are a son, W. C. Fry, with whom he operated the insurance and real estate business in partnership. A sister, Mrs. Berlia Coomer, Kansas City, Mo.; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five brothers and a daughter Syble, who died at the age of 3. He was active in the United Methodist Church in Attica and served as steward and trustee for many years. He was active in civic affairs and served as the first president of the Attica Chamber of Commerce when that organization changed from the Attica Merchants Association. He was a charter member and past president of the Fountain-Warren Board of Realtors. He was made an honorary steward in 1966 of the United Methodist Church. He was active in the Attica Lions Club for several years and was a Mason for 43 years. He was the first insurance agent elected for three consecutive years as a member of the DASU Club which is an honorary organization. Friends will be received at the DeSutter Funeral Home, Attica, after 3 p.m. Friday. Services will be at the DeSutter Chapel at 9 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. Harold Bakert will officiate. The body will then be taken to Salsburg, Mo., for services with burial in Mt. Pleasant Cemetey in Keytesville, Mo. --typed by Walt W
