Jennie Mitchell French, daughter of Joseph Mitchell and Elizabeth Dermet Mitchell was born in Carrol County, Kentucky, Nov. 19th, 1868.
She was married to William French of Lawrence County, Ill., Feb. 28th, 1900, who preceded her in death November 1, 1981. They were the parents of one son, Vern.
In her earlier days, Mrs. French assisted her husband in establishing & grocery store in Veedersburg, where she worked faithfully at his side. Through their efforts together French's Store became a familiar landmark in the community.
After Mr. French's death, Grandma French retired from active store life and her center of life became her family, particulary her grandchildren, Helen and Don.
She was a good mother, & devoted grandmother and a kind, helpful neighbor. Grandma Jennie will be missed.

Mrs. Jennie French, 89, a resident of Veedersburg for 55 years, died in her sleep at the home of her son, Vern, on Friday, Jan. 17. Mrs. French has been ill for some time and recently returned home from St. Elizabeth Hospital, where she had been a patient for several days.
Born in Kentucky on Nov. 19, 1868, she was the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth Mitchell. She was married Feb. 1, 1900 to William French, who preceded her in death in 1931. The couple operated a grocery store in Veedersburg for many years.
Surviving are the son, Vern, a granddaughter, Mrs. John Martin, of Danville, Ill., a grandson, Donald of Newport, Ind., and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Sunday at the Fishero Funeral Home with Rev. George Mitchell officiating. Burial was in Rockfield Cemetery. - jz
