Chester “Chet”
France, 89, of Catlin, Ill., passed away at 12 noon Tuesday, April 11, 2000 at
Provena USMC, Logan Campus in Danville, Ill. He was born November 1, 1910, in
Fairmount, the son of Wesley and Ida Miller France. He married Ina Mae Butts on
August 4, 1932, in Decatur, Ill. She survives. Also surviving are: one son,
Michael (Gige) France of Reistertown, Maryland.; one daughter, Beverly (Floyd)
White of Covington; one brother, Gordon France of Walla Walla, Wash.; one
sister, Helen Prouty of Walla Walla; three grandchildren and five
great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother. He retired from
General Motors in 1973 with over 20 years of service in the maintenance
department. He was a member of the Catlin Church of Christ. He enjoyed fishing,
watching car races and playing cards. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m.
Friday, April 14, 2000 at the Catlin Church of Christ with Dave Burger and Dale
Hunt officiating. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Catlin. Visitation
will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the fellowship hall of the Catlin Church
of Christ, and one hour prior to services Friday at the church. Memorials may
be made to the Catlin Church of Christ, St. Joseph Children’s Home or the
