Perrysville, Ind. - Mrs. Mabel Imogene Fortner, 52, of Perrysville, died at 11:46 a.m. Thursday (June 7, 1973)at Woodland Manor Nursing Home in Attica. She had been ill for two years. She was born June 16, 1920 in Union Twp, Parke County, the daughter of Clarence P. and Elizabeth F. Coombs Staggs. She married Russell Fortner June 16, 1939. Other survivors include five daughters, Mrs. Clara Bernardi of Danville, Mrs. Hazel Barr of Allerton, Miss Melody Ann Fortner of Salem, Mo., and Miss Meda Kay and Miss Mona Lee Fortner, both at home; three sons, Paul of Danville, Carl of Perrysville Route 1 and Orville at home; a sister, Mrs. Mary Edna Vibber of Indianapolis; four brothers, Raymond Staggs of Kingman Route 2, Randall Staggs of Hillard, Ohio, Roy Staggs of Greencastle and Clarence P. Staggs of New Ross; a foster brother, John L Knauer of Shepherdsville, Ky; seven grandchildren, five step-grandchildren; and a step-great grandson. She was preceded in death by a daughter, a son and her father. She had worked as a nurses aide for two years at St. Elizabeth Hospital and later for 10 years at the Danville Veterans Administration Hospital. She was a member of the Perrysville United Methodist Church and Shaeffer Camp 9601 of the Royal Neighbors of America of Perrysville. Services will be at 2 p.m. at Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home in Covington. The Revs. Dale Cadman and Henry Kang will officiate. Burial will be in Lower Mound Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
