Funeral services for Arnold K. Fortner, 23 year old Newport man and husband of the former Bonnie Keller, daughter of Cyril Keller of Covington, Rt 2 who was fatally injured Friday afternoon, Feb 26 in a wreck near Pocahontas, Ill., were held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 1, at the Watson Funeral Home in Cayuga. The Rev. Charles Florey officiated and burial was in the Newport Cemetery. Mr. Fortner was fatally injured in an accident that involved the semi-truck trailer he was driving. He was taken to a Greenville, Ill., hospital where he died about an hour after the accident. He was driving a Liquid Transport Co. truck, owned by an Indianapolis firm and had delivered a load of acid to St. Louis, Mo. He was returning to his Newport home on Route 40 when the accident occurred. The young man was born in Indianapolis July 25, 1941, the son of Wayne and Mary Elizabeth Russell Fortner. He was a graduate of Newport High School. He attended the Naval Air School in Tennessee and was a Navy aviation electrical technician for three years. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; their three week old daughter, Tamara Lynn a stepson, Timmy Lee, of Newport, his parents, also of Newport, two brothers Ronald, a senior at Purdue University, and Donald, in the U.S. Navy in Charleston, S.C.; two grandmothers, Mrs. Georgia Russell of Clinton and Mrs. Gertha Fortner of Newport; and a grandfather Ralph Fortner of Perrysville.
