FORREST, Earnest Jethro

Earnest Jethro Forrest was one of five children, born to the union of Millard and Emily Worley Forrest. He was born in Scott County in Austin, Indiana, on July 18, 1883. He spent his youth in the vicinity of his birth, and attended the school there, and at the age of thirteen he came with his parents to this community.
He enjoyed a very happy and exciting boyhood becoming quite industrious as he grew to young manhood. On June 12, 1904, he was united in marriage to Miss Alta M. Patton. They started their married life in the Perry Glascock residence in the southern part of Veedersburg, during the two years in which Earnest worked at the Veedersburg Brick Yard. It was in 1906 that they moved to the Wesley Grey farm northwest of Veedersburg where they have lived the last fifty years. Earnest and
Alta had the surviving two daughters and one son, Mrs. Olive Edwards, of Danville, Illinois, Mrs. Mary Goings of Veedersburg, Indiana and Mr. Robert Forrest of Indianapolis, Indiana.
Mr. Forrest has been a very successful farmer, and land-owner in this county. He was several times elected member of the Advisory Board and served in that capacity for 35 years. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias Lodge of Veedersburg, Indiana.
Earnest and Alta Forrest celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary, June 12, 1954 at their home northwest of Veedersburg. It was in the fall of 1955 that Mr. Forrest health began to fail. In November of the following year, due to his ill health the family went to Tucson, Arizona in the search of better health for Mr. Forrest. On April 1st, this year the family returned to their home northwest of Veedersburg, and it was here that death came suddenly to Earnest at 6:00 a.m. Friday morning April 26, 1957, at the age of 73 years, 9 months, and 8 days.
Earnest was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and William; and one sister, Mrs. Doshia Songer.
Surviving are his wife, Alta, one brother, Clarence Forrest of Veedersburg, and the two daughters, Olive and Mary, and one son, Robert, eleven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren and several other relatives.
Mr. Forrest shall be greatly missed in this community by reason of the life he had lived which shall ever be a monument to him. He was a sportsman, liking very much the outdoors; and an ever industrious and progressive individual in all things that he did, and shall be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. - jz

Ernest J. Forrest, 73, a prominent farmer of the Veedersburg community and well known throughout Fountain County, was found dead in bed about 6 a. m. Friday morning by his wife. The Forrests had recently returned to their farm home just northwest of Veedersburg after spending the winter in Arizona. Mr. Forrest had been in ill health for the past year and his death was attributed to asthma.
He was active for many years in Fountain County politics and was a former Commissioner of Fountain County and also a member of the Van Buren Township advisory board. He was a member of the K. of P. lodge in Veedersburg.
He was born July 18, 1883 the son of Millard and Emily Worley Forrest on June 12, 1904, he was married to Alta Patton, who survives.
Surviving besides Mrs. Forrest are three children, Mrs. Olive Edwards of Danville, Ill., Mrs. Mary Goings of Veedersburg and Robert of Indianapolis; a brother, Clarence a Veedersburg, 11 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Veedersburg Christian Church with the minister, George Mitchell officiating. Burial was in the Masonic cemetery in Waynetown with the Fisher Funeral home in charge. - jz
