Mrs. Martha B. (Mattie) Fishero, 76 passed away at 6 a.m March 1, at the Culver Hospital in Crawfprdsville, Ind after having been admitted Feb 20. Mrs. Fisher became ill on Saturday, February 19 with a cerebral hemorrhage while at the home of her daughter Mrs. Lucille Young of Crawfordsville where Mrs. Fisher had been spending the winter months. Mrs. Fishero was born Sept 27, 1878 in Chambersburg, Fountain County, Indiana, the daughter of John and Susanna Pithoud Cheney. Her childhood was spent in the community of her birth and in Danville, Ill and on Aug 27, 1895 she was married to Harry C. Fishero who preceded her in death passing away May 18, 1947 An infant daughter, Laura Ann also preceded her in death. Surviving are two sons, Thomas Fishero of Columbus, Oh and Charles E. Fishero of Veedersburg, Ind and the one daughter, Mrs. Lucille Young of Crawfordsville. There are also surviving, 5 grandchildren: Garry and Garth of Columbus, Ohio; Billey Gene Fishero with the US Navy stationed in California and Carolyn and Bobby Fishero of Veedersburg, Ind; and one nephew, Jesse Scott of Hillsboro. Mrs. Fishero enjoyed membership in the Christian Church of Veedersburg; and in later life was a member of the Veedersburg Evangelical United Brethren Church and a member of the Valetta Chapter OES of Veedersburg. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday at the Veedersburg EUB Church with burial in Rockfield Cemetery. = kbz

Martha Blanche Cheney Fishero was one of two children born to the union of John and Susanna Pithoud Cheney.  She was born just north of Sterling in the Chambersburg community. Sept 27, 1878.  Her early childhood was spent in the community of her birth and her father passed away while she was quite young. Her mother then  married Will Scott of Danville, Illinois and there was one son born of this union, William Harry Scott. It was in Danville that Mattie Fisher spent her young adult life.  Mattie Fishero later met and was married to Harry C. Fishero on Aug 27, 1895. Their married life was then spent entirely in the Veedersburg community and it was here that they took of the work of perpetuating a service to families of the community in their times of need, and this they did until their health no longer permitted.  To this union there was born 4 children: one daughter Laura Ann died in infancy and her two surviving sons, Thomas Fisher of Columbus, Ohio; Charles E. Fishero of Veedersburg, Indiana and her daughter, Lucille Young of Crawfordsville, Indiana with whom she had been living these past few months.  Mattie Fishero became ill on Saturday Feb 19 and was removed to Culver Hospital in Crawfordsville on Sunday where she passed away March 1st at the age of 76 years 5 months 4 days.  Mattie Fishero was preceded in death by her husband, Harry C. Fishero who passed away May 18, 1947 having also been preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Charles Cheney of Danville, Ill and her brother, Harry Scott. She leaves to survive her the above named children and 5 grandchildren: Gary and Garth Fishero of Columbus, Ohio; and Billy Gene Fishero with the US Navy stationed in Alameda, California; and Carolyn and Bobby Fishero of Veedersburg and the one nephew, Jesse Scott of Hillsboro and several other relatives and many friends, including the in-laws, Naoma Fishero of Columbus, Ohio, Esther Fishero of Veedersburg, Indiana; Walter B. Young of Crawfordsville, Indiana and Sarah Lou Fishero of Alemeda, California. In early life Mrs. Fishero enjoyed membership in the Christian Church of Veedersburg and in later life was a member of the Veedersburg Evangelical United Brethren Church.  She was a member of the Valetta Chapter of Eastern Star of Veedersburg and enjoyed many other activities. – kbz
