Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, at the Veedersburg United Methodist Church for Darrel L. Fisher, 84, of Alamo, Texas and formerly of Veedersburg. He died at 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, at the Rio Grande Regional Hospital at McAllen, Texas, where he had been a patient two weeks. The Rev. Beatrice Day will officiate. The Parham Funeral Home at Veedersburg is in charge of local arrangements. An employee of the C&S railroad for 20 years, he also was an accountant and real estate appraiser and operated a real estate and insurance business in Veedersburg. He and his wife were the original owners of the Cardinal Café in Veedersburg. He retired from the Indiana State Highway Commission as chief appraiser in the Division of Land Acquisition of Indianapolis. Fisher was a 32nd Degree Mason, past master and 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge 491 and a 50-year member of the Valetta Chapter, Order of Eastern Star. He was also a charter member of the Veedersburg Lions Club. He was born Jan. 22, 1901, in Veedersburg, the son of William and Bell Askren Fisher. On May 5, 1928 at South Bend, he married Wilma Smith. She survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Dairrel (Annabelle) Abney, Hillsboro; a brother, Garland Fisher, Veedersburg; six grandsons and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Robert. The family requested memorials be in the form of contributions to the United Methodist Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice. – thanks so much to “S” for typing
