Chauncey M. FINE, 78, Crawfordsville, died 4:13 p.m. Sunday in St. Clare Medical Center from injuries suffered in an automobile accident. Mr. Fine was a retired US Postal Service mail carrier, retiring after 30 years. He served in the Army Air Corps in WWII. His memberships include Trinity United Methodist Church, Hillsboro Masonic Lodge 385; York Rite; Scottish Rite, Valley of Indianapolis, American Legion Post 73 and National Association of Letter Carriers. He drove the disabled veterans van. He graduated from Hillsboro HS. He was born March 12, 1922 at Hillsboro to Jess D. and Mary S. Atkinson Fine. He married Esther L. Ratcliff on June 3, 1944, at Crawfordsville. She died in 1997. He then married Helen E. Wagner Thayer on November 8, 2000 at Indianapolis. She died Feb 25, 2001 as a result of the same accident. Survivors include two daughters, Joyce Jeffers, Crawfordsville and Gloria Gangwer, Boise, Idaho; two sons, ROger, Carmel and Gary, Beech Grove; 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. A brother, Leland is deceased. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Trinity United Methodist Church, 110 S. Blair St with Rev. Don Watson officiating. A private burial will be in the Masonic Cemetery, Waynetown. Military graveside rites will be conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. Friends may call 2-8 p.m. today in Powers-Priebe Funeral Home, 315 S. Washington St. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church.
