Source: Obituary from a collection by Fauniel Hershberger, a life long resident of Fountain County Indiana, now housed at Crawfordsville District Public Library.
The funeral of Mrs. Eliza Fields, wife of the late Edward W. Fields, was held at the Bend church at 2 o'clock on Sunday afternoon, Feb. 7, 1909, Rev. F. K. Dougherty officiating, interment following at the Steely cemetery. Mrs. Fields was born in Fountain county, Ind., Sept. 22, 1832 was the youngest daughter of the late George and Eliza Steely, and her funeral services were held in the Chapel just across the road from the home farm, where she was reared, and the body laid to rest beside that of her husband in the family cemetery near the home of her childhood. Mrs. Fields died at the home of her only daughter, near Foster, Feb. 4, 1909, after a short illness at the age of 76 years, 4 months and 12 days. She was united in marriage to Edward W. Fields, May 5, 1853. This union was blessed by seven children, two of which died in infancy. Frank Fields followed them in 1897. She leaves to mourn her death, one daughter and three sons, Mrs. Flora Patton, of Foster; Geo. Fields, of Oakville, Wash.; John and Andrew Fields, of Foster; also a host of dear friends. She survived her husband but a few months, he having died August 12, 1908. She had been a member of the Methodist church for many years. As we say farewell, dear mother and friend, we feel that one more has gone to welcome us when we shall cross the intervening space between this one and the one o'er there. --typed by Walt W
