Sgt 1 C Mark Farren, 46, of 5610 110th St SW died Tuesday in a military hospital in Japan of burns received April 10 in Vietnam from a mine explosion. He was serving with Co D 26th Engineer Batallion. He had been in Vietnam since August. Sgt Farren was born in Harrisonburg VA and had lived in Tacoma since 1961. He was a 11-year Army veteran. Survivors include his wife, Claradeen and three sons, James, William and Terry all of the home; three brothers and two sisters. Services will be announced by Mountain View Funeral Home.

Mrs. Minnie Thompson has returned to her home in Mellott from Tacoma, Wash where she spent several days visiting her daughter, Mrs. Claradeen Royal Farren. While there she attended the funeral service of her son-in-law, Sgt. Mark Farren. He died in a Japanese Hospital a few days after suffering severe injuries April 12 in Vietnam.

Mellott – Relatives have received word that Sgt. Mark Farren, 46, died April 20 in a military hospital in Japan. He suffered fatal body burns in a mine explosion in Vietnam. He was married to the former Claradene Royal of Mellott. She now resides at Tacoma, Wash. Sgt. Farren has served in the US Army for the past 28 years. Other survivors are his father, Robert Farren of Gordonville, VA; three sons, James in Vietnam; mark Jr and Terry both of Tacoma, two sisters and three brothers.
