Wingate – Earl S. Farley, age 45 of Wingate, a former resident of Rob Roy and Stone Bluff was killed instantly shortly before noon Saturday March 16 when he was struck in the neck by a piece of wood hurled by a blade at Bane’s sawmill here. Farley, an employee of the sawmill, reportedly was cleaning sawdust and debris from around the area of the blade when he apparently flipped the piece of wood into the whirling blade.  Montgomery County Coroner, Dr. Samuel C. Millis said Farley died instantly when the piece of wood struck him.  Death was attributed to a broken neck and shock. The sheriff’s department also investigated the accident.  The victim, who had worked in sawmills all of his adult life had been employed by Bane’s Sawmill the past 10 years.  Earl Sidney Farley who would have been 46 Friday was born March 22, 1922 at Webster Springs, Mich, the son of David J. and Bertha Taylor Farley. He was married at Williamsport to Sylvia Watkins who survives.  He had resided at Rob Roy, Stone Bluff and Judyville prior to moving to Wingate two years ago.  He was a veteran of World War II and was a member of the Moose Lodge at Attica.  He attended the Evangelical United Brethren Church.  Surviving in addition to the wife are his mother, Mrs. Bertha Farley of Bangor, Mich; two children, Earl Wayne and Clara Mae, both at home; one brother, Ralph Farley of Attica, Rt 4 and four sisters, Mrs. Gilla Hancock of Stone Bluff; Mrs. Ora Cutlip and Mrs. Jessie Brink, both of Bangor and Mrs. Dora Willit of Decatur, Mich.  Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the DeSutter Funeral Home in Attica. Additional services were held at the Stafford Funeral Home in Bangor, Mich Tuesday.  Burial was in Arlington Cemetery at Bangor. - kbz
