FORT MYERS, Fla. — Earl
Fairchild, 82, Fort Myers, Fla., died Saturday, May 6, 2006. He was born Sept.
16, 1923 in Covington. He married Mabel Thomas Jan. 6, 1946, and celebrated 58
years together. She preceded in death in 2004. He was a resident of Covington
most of his life. During World War II, he served in the Army Air Corp. 11th
Bombardment Group as a flight mechanic in the South Pacific Theater. He worked
for Washington National Insurance Company. He loved to play shuffleboard. He
was a member of Southside Christian Church in Fort Myers and First Church of
Christ in Covington. Survivors include: a son, Michael (Bonita) Fairchild,
Burlington, N.C.; a daughter, Cathy (Charles) Fluckey, Chalmers; nine grandchildren,
11 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Guy, Bob, and Mack Fairchild; three
sisters, Jean Hall, Susan Meisenhimer, Marie Layton, and Carol Powell. A
memorial service was at 2 p.m. Monday in the First Church of Christ, Covington.
