Attica—E. Louise Colvert, 85, 200 S. Brady St., Attica, died at 12:30 a.m. Thursday, May 25, 1989 in Crittenton Hospital, Rochester, Mich. she had been visiting a nephew, Elston Colvert, at Romeo, Mich., when she became ill.

  She was born Aug. 9, 1903 in Attica, the daughter of Corwin and Bertha Rohlfing Colvert. She graduated from Attica High School, Wellesley College, Wellesley, Mass., and received her master’s degree from Columbia University in New York City. She also studied at Oxford University in England.

  She taught school for a number of years in St. Louis, Mo., and was head of the English department at a school in Milwaukee, Wis., now known as Milwaukee Downer Seminary.

  She was assistant principal at the seminary from 1949 to 1959 and in 1959 accepted the position of head mistress of Sarah Dix Hamlin School in San Francisco, Calif. She served as principal at that school for 10 years, retiring in 1969. After her retirement, she returned to Attica.

  She was a life member of the Presbyterian Church and a member of Presbyterian Women’s association, Monday Club, Attica Literary Club and Tri Kappa Sorority.

  Surviving are her sister-in-law, Mrs. Frederick R. Colvert, Attica, with whom she made her home; a niece, Mrs. Mary Colvert, Bryn-Maur, Pa., and a nephew, Elston Colvert, Romeo, Mich.

  Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Attica Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Kenneth Burris officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Attica. Visitation was 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Maus Funeral Home, Attica. – thanks to S

"Funeral services - Covert, E. Louise. Friends will be received at 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Maus Funeral Home, Attica.  Service 10:30 a.m. Monday Attica Presbyterian Church, Rev. Kenneth Burris officiating.  The body will lie in state one hour prior to service.  Interment Riverside Cemetery, Attica. Surviving a niece, Mrs. Mary Colvert Carroll, Bryn-Maur, PA; a nephew, Elston Colvert, Romeo, Mich. Memorial contributions may be made to Attica Presbyterian Church.
