McMannomy Coffing, 67, vice president and director of the Fountain Trust Company, died at 7:30 AM Friday (June 6, 1958) at his home in Covington. He had been in ill health since January. A native of the community, Mr. Coffing moved back here in 1956 after retiring as an executive for the Greenwalt Surgical Manufacturing Company and the Coffing-Tyler Insurance Company in Gary, Indiana. He served as state representative from Lake County, Indiana in 1943 and 1944 and was a director of Gary Railways and a member of the Gary Housing Authority. He was born July 20, 1890 in Covington, son of William B. and Elizabeth McMannomy Coffing, and was married March 23, 1940 to Elizabeth Wilkey. He was graduated from Covington High School in 1909 and from Wabash College at Crawfordsville in 1913. Mr. Coffing was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Fountain Lodge 60 F & AM, Terre Haute Shrine, and Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity. Surviving are his wife: his father residing in Covington, and two sisters, Mrs. Louise Bilsland and Mrs. Mary Dunlap both of Covington. He was preceded in death by his mother and a bother, George. The body is at the Hegg Funeral Home in Covington where the family will receive friends after noon Saturday. Services will at 3 PM Sunday at the funeral home, with the Rev. George Beatty officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

McMannomy (Mick) Coffing, age 67, prominent Covington businessman and graduate of Wabash college, Crawfordsville, died suddenly of a heart attack Friday morning, June 6, at his home, 719 Liberty Street. He was stricken at about 7:30 a.m. as he was preparing to attend the 45th reunion of his graduating class at Wabash. He had been in ill health since January. He was born July 20, 1890, at the old McMannomy homestead near Covington, the son of William B. and Emma McMannomy Coffing. He was married March 23, 1940 to Elizabeth Wilkey, who survives. Mr. Coffing was a 1909 graduate of the Covington High School and a 1913 graduate of Wabash College. He was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity at Wabash and the college's football and baseball teams. At his alma mater he established the "Mc. Coffing Scholarship Fund" for worthy students of Wabash College. He also was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Fountain Lodge No. 60, F.&A.M., of Covington, and the Zorah Shrine Temple of Terre Haute. He had been active in business and community affairs in Gary for over 30 years. While in Gary he resided in the Gary Hotel. A former state representative from Lake County in 1943 and 1944, Mr. Coffing retired in 1956 from active operation of the Greenwald Surgical Manufacturing Company, which he owned, and the Coffing-Tyler Insurance Company, in which he was a partner. After a few years spent in farming he went to Gary in 1925 as the local agent of a fire and casualty insurance group. In 1937, after the death of I. Greenwald, Mr. Coffing assumed management of the surgical instrument business of the I. Greenwald Co., having been a secretary-treasurer of the company for several years. Among his other activities, Mr. Coffing was a director of the Gary Railways, former member of the Gary Housing Authority, a member of the University Club of Gary, the Gary Board of Realtors and was former president of the Miller Beach Property owners Association. At the time of his retirement in 1956 he moved back to his home here and he was actively interested in his farms. He was vice-president of The Fountain Trust Company. He is survived by his wife; his father, William B. Coffing of Sixth Street; two sisters, Mrs. Louise C. Coffing and Mrs. Mary C. Dunlap, both of Covington, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother and a brother, George Coffing. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Hegg Funeral Home here. The Rev. George Beatty officiated and burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery where Masonic rites were conducted at the graveside. Pallbearers were: John Duncan, John King, Dick McFarland, Don McFarland, Merrill H. Bell, Henry Bilsland, Charles Green and Jim Dunlap.
