Memorial services will be held for Homer J. Coffing, 93, a resident of Danville Care Nursing Home, formerly of Mt. Carmel.  He and his son, Donald, were the co-owners of the Sherrill Orchard here from 1960-68.  He died May 14 at 10:15 p.m. in the nursing home, where he had been a patience since July of 1981.  The body was cremated with Lakeside Funeral Chapel in charge.  Born Aug 8, 1889 in Covington, Indiana, he was the son of James M. and Miranda (Ziegler) Coffing.  On March 17, 1911, he married Florence N. Beckelhymer; she died on June 2, 1981.  Survivors include a son, Donald H. of Covington; four daughters, Mrs. Mildred M. Ahrens of Danville; Mrs. Ruby C. Hunt of Richmond, IN, Mrs. Ann M. Ratcliff of Phoenix, AZ and Mrs. Betty L. Newnum of Evansville, IN; 15 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren.  He was also preceded in death by two brothers, three sisters and a daughter. - kbz

Homer J. Coffing of Danville Care Nursing Home, formerly of Covington, age 93, died Saturday night, May 14, in the nursing home at Danville, Illinois. He was born at Covington, August 8, 1889, the son of James M. and Miranda Zeigler Coffing. March 17, 1911, he married Florence N. Beckelhymer, who died June 2, 1981.

  Coffing started the Coffing Orchard south of Covington in 1910 and later he and his son Donald were owners of Sherrill Orchard at Mount Carmel, Illinois. He retired in 1950 and made his home in Florida many years. He was a past president of the Indiana Horticultural Society.

  Survivors include four daughters, Mildred M. Ahrens of Danville, Illinois, Ruby C. Hunt of Richmond, Ann M. Ratcliff of Phoenix, Arizona, and Betty L. Newnum of Evansville; a son, Donald H. of Covington; 16 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren.

Memorial services were held Saturday afternoon at West Liberty Church of Christ, south of Covington for Homer J. Coffing and Florence N. Beckelhymer Coffing. Coffing, age 93, died May 14, 1983, and Mrs. Coffing died June 2, 1981. They were former owners of Coffing Brothers Orchard near Covington.
  Rev. Clark E. Devore officiated and the ashes were interred in West Liberty Church Cemetery. Lakeside Funeral Chapel of Danville, Illinois, was in charge of arrangements. – thanks so much to S
