Waynetown -- Mrs. Dereta (sic - should be Vereta) Coats, 85, of Waynetown died at 9:50 p.m. Sunday July 1, 1973 at the Lane House Nursing Home in Crawfordsville. She had been a patient 9 weeks. Born Feb 18, 1888 near Veedersburg, she was the daughter of George B. and Ella Booe Stockdale. She was married Nov. 16, 1910 to Joseph William Coats, who died July 3, 1951. Mrs. Coats resided in Fountain County until moving to Waynetown about 15 years ago. She was a member of the Scotts Priarie Church south of Hillsboro and was a gradaute of Veedersburg High. Survivors include four sons, Frances and William of Waynetown Rt 1, George of North Salem and Eugene of Indianapolis; a step son, Charles Coats, of Indianapolis a step daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Ray of Rochester; two brothers, George of Covington and Ralph of near Crawfordsville; 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, five brothers and three sisters. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Servies-Thomas Funeral Home. Burial will be in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. Friends will be received after 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Coats had resided at Waynetown 15 years after moving here from Fountain County. She was a member of the Scotts Prairie Christian Church and a graduate of Veedersburg High School. She was born on Feb. 18, 1888, near Veedersburg, the daughter of George B. and Ella Booe Stockdale. She married Joseph W. Coats on Nov. 16, 1910, at Veedersburg. He preceded her in death on July 3, 1951. Surviving are four sons, Francis of Waynetown, William of Rt. 1, Waynetown, George of North Salem and Eugene of Indianapolis; a step-son, Charles Coats of Indianapolis; a step-daughter, Mrs. Harry (Elizabeth) Ray of Rochester; two brothers, Guy of Covington and Ray of Rochester; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Servies-Thomas Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Tuesday.
