Max A. Coats, 85, of 110 Delaware, died at 5:50 this morning (Jan. 31, 1975) at his home. County Coroner Gary Ballard ruled that death was due to natural causes. Mr. Coats had farmed in the Veedersburg, Ind., area, and later worked for the C&EI Railroad as a signalman. He retired in 1954. He was born March 14, 1889, in Fountain County, Ind., the son of Joseph and Evalynna Clark Coats. He married Omo Saltsgener Dec. 24, 1914, in Gessie, Ind., and she survives. Also surviving is a daughter, Mrs. Helen Prast of Danville; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a step-grandchild and two sisters, Mrs. C. B. (Mabel) McCord of Crawfordsville, Ind., and Mrs. Ogle (Ruby) Snyder of Joplin, Mo. He was preceded in death by a son, a grandson, three brothers and a sister. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Barrick & Son Funeral Home. J.D. Thompson will officiate and burial will be in Rockfield Cemetery at Veedersburg. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
