Frank W. Coats was one of the 9 children born to William Bolivar and Elizabeth Martha Coats. He, with a twin sister, was born in the old Coats homestead, known as Marble Hall oct 25, 1867. The twin sister died at the age of two days.
With the exception of a few months, his entire life was spent in the home of his birth, and in this vicinity. As a youth he attended the Coats school and later the Veedersburg HS. At the age of 19 he entered Purdue and studied there for one year. On December 17, 1888, he married Miss Mell McManigal, who still survives. Two sons were born to this union, one tiny son who died at the age of two days and William Harold, who resides in Ligonier, Ind. Frank had three grandchildren born to his son, Harold, Malcolm Norman, who died June 25, 1936; Conrad Dean, who is now in Africa in Army service and one baby granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth. One sister, Laurel Clore, survives. Four sisters and three brothers preceded Frank in death.
He spent almost his entire life on a farm raising stock and grain. He was a lover of nature and a great reader and chose Christian Science as his religion. Frank passed to his reward on Thursday morning Jan 7, 1943 at 7:30 o'clock. --- transcribed by kbz
