Austin Clore, 73, of Mellott, a former resident of Crawfordsville and Romney, died at 9:50 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9 at the Danville Veterans Administration Medical Center.  

    He had managed the Crane Cigar Store in Crawfordsville.  He also was a gunsmith and had his own shop in Crawfordsville.  He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the Army engineers in Europe.

    He had lived in Crawfordsville until 1974, when he moved to Romney.  He then moved to Mellott in 1978.

    Born Sept. 16, 1911, in Wallace, he was a son of James and Delta Stonebraker Clore.  He was a 1930 graduate of Crawfordsville High School.  He was married in 1930 in Danville to Georgia Cole, who survives.

    Other survivors include his stepmother, Katheryn Clore, Crawfordsville; two sons, James, Ladoga, and Charles “Chuck” Springfield, Mo.; two daughters, Mrs. Donald (Beverly) Crowder, Mellott, and Mrs. Irvin (Delta) Owens, Romney; a brother, Clinton, Crawfordsville; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.   He was preceded in death by a brother.   Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at the Thomas Funeral Home in Waynetown.  Private graveside services were Monday, Jan. 14, in the Danville National Cemetery. – thanks so much to “S” for the typing
