KINGMAN — Freddie "Fred” Shelton Clingan, 79, Kingman, died at 5:35 p.m. Sunday, July 12, 2006 in VA Illiana Health Care System, Danville, Ill. He was born Nov. 3, 1926 in Fountain County, the son of Roy and Edna (Shelton) Clingan. He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II and was at the Channel of Normandy on June 6, 1944, being only 17 years old. He also served in the European Theatre for 3 1/2 years. He was a 1948 graduate of Kingman High School. He was a member of Kingman American Legion Post, serving as commander in 1953 and from 1998 until 2005; Kingman Masonic Lodge #314 for over 50 years; Scottish Rite; Terre Haute Western Indiana Shriners Club, where he served as president in 1970; Terre Haute Zorah Shriners; and Covington V.E.W. He was also co-founder of Lake Holiday Hide-A-Way with Frank Dark. Survivors include: a son, Danny (Sharon) Clingan, Mooresville; two daughters, Page (Dale) Fitzpatrick, Danville, Ill. and Melanie (Bob) Worley, Williamsport; a brother, Lee Clingan, Covington; a sister, Almeda Samuels, Danville, Ill.; a granddaughter, Shasha Fitzpatrick; and two grandsons, Jordan S. and Jevin Gooch. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Curtis Roy Clinton; two brothers, Gordon and Dennis “Bert” Clingan; and a sister, Alberta Holland. Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Thursday in Hall Funeral Home, Kingman, with Kenny Majors officiating. Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Covington, with military rites by Kingman American Legion Post #384. Memorials may be made to the Shriners Childrens Hospital. – jlr
