Mrs. Hortense M. Clem, age 67, 922 Fourth St., a resident of Covington since 1921, died at 12:05 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, at the Rudisill Nursing Home in Crawfordsville where she had been a patient two weeks, following a three-year illness. Born Jan. 29, 1893 at Attica, she was the daughter of James and Marie McNeil Martin. She was married Feb. 16, 1921 to Daniel V. Clem, who survives and is a former Covington postmaster. Mrs. Clem was a member of the Covington Presbyterian Church, Richard Henry Lee Chapter DAR, Troy Chapter 145 Order of Eastern Star, Alpha Gamma Chapter of Tri Kappa Sorority and the Sewing Club. She had attended DePauw University and had resided in Attica and Indianapolis before moving to Covington. Survivors include her husband, a stepdaughter, Mrs. Ruhama Evans of Morristown, N.J.; three aunts, Mrs. Reba Ramsey and Mrs. Helen Headley of Danville, Ill., and Mrs. Nadine Clough of Lake Forrest, Ill.; and an uncle, George W. McNeil of Danville, Ill. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. (CST) Thursday, Oct. 27, at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home. The Rev. Alfred Gresse will officiate, with burial in Sunset Memorial Park at Danville, Ill. The body is at the funeral home where friends may call.
