COVINGTON — Frank Pershing Clawson, 79, 2480 W. U. S. 136, Covington, died at 3:04 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000 in V.A. Medical Center, Danville, Ill. He was born April 16, 1931 in Covington, the son of Marshall and Kate Ann Helms Clawson. He married Minnie E. Vickery Oct. 27, 1945. She survives. He was a life resident of Covington and attended Covington schools. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps and later in the Army in World War II, serving in five major campaigns. He was employed as a chauffeur by Chester Powell and Ben Fairchild for many years. Then he was a wood finisher at Marshall Studios, retiring in 1983. He was a member of First Church of Christ and V.F.W. Post #2395. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and family gatherings: Survivors, besides the wife, include: a son, Clifford (Linda) Clawson, Covington; a daughter, Rita (Ronald) Sams, Covington; a sister, Ida Warrick, Covington; a grandson, John C. Thomas; a granddaughter, Annette Clawson; a great-granddaughter; five nieces and four nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and a sister. Military gravesite services will be at 1 p.m. today (Wednesday) in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Covington, with Randy Walters and Pastor Dale Rhodes officiating. Shelby Funeral Home, Covington, is in charge of arrangements. – jlr
