ATTICA — Charles Clawson, 94, 1103 S. Perry St., Attica, died at 8:40 a.m. Monday, Sept. 24, 2001 in Country Care Nursing Center, Williamsport. He was born June 18, 1907 in Rob Roy, the son of William H. and Estella Armenia Watts Clawson. He married Josephine Hutchins Jan. 7, 1933 in Veedersburg. She survives. He was raised and educated in Rob Roy. In 1933 he moved to Attica. He formerly worked as a blacksmith for 13 years at Harrison Steel Castings Company. He later owned and operated the Clawson Hardware Store in Attica from 1950-1961. His slogan at the store was “Buyers wise Economize.” After selling the hardware store he operated a machine shop from his garage until his failing health in 1985. He loved to work with wood and metal where he was a gifted craftsman making furniture and metal items for people. He served as a city councilman for two years. He had served on the Fountain County Liquor Board for four years. These occurred in the 1960s. He was a member and had served as a trustee of the Attica-Williamsport Presbyterian Church. Survivors, besides the wife, include: several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by two brothers and five sisters. Friends may call at the Attica-Williamsport Presbyterian Church from 1 p.m. until service time at 3 p.m. today (Wednesday), with the Rev. John DeSanto officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Attica. Maus Funeral Home, Attica, is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Attica-Williamsport Presbyterian Church. – jlr
