Three Fountain Central High School students were involved in a car accident Thursday, April 23. Alan Clawson, 17, died instantly from a broken neck and head injuries. Injured in the accident were Donald “Junior” Gossett, 17, RR 1, Kingman, and Scott A. Hughes, 16, RR 3 Veedersburg.
   All three boys were juniors at Fountain Central and were enroute to the vocational building trades class at Covington. State Police said the car left U.S. 136 and hit a tree in a strip of land that separates the highway from ConRail railroad tracks. The incident happened at 8:40 a.m.
  Gossett sustained a broken jaw and multiple cuts. Hughes suffered cuts, abrasions and a fractured left arm. Both were treated at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Danville, Illinois.
  Investigators said there were no skid marks at the scene and no apparent reason why the car left the roadway.
  Clawson was a member of the football team. A resident of the Wallace area for five years, he was a former resident of Cates and Danville. He attended the Kingman Community Church.
  Born July 31, 1963 at Crawfordsville, he was the son of Leonard J. and Wanda Mills Clawson.
  Survivors include his parents of RR 1, Hillsboro; two brothers, Michael S. of RR 1, Perrysville; and Larry V. of Anaheim, California; three sisters, Mrs. Terry (Kathy) Haworth of RR 3, Kingman; Mrs. John S. (Tina) Brown of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Angela at home; the paternal grandfather, Leonard Clawson Sr. of Medford, Oregon and the maternal grandmother, Mrs. O. V. Mills of Cates.
  Funeral services were conducted Saturday at Bodine and Shelby Funeral Home in Covington. Rev. Glenn Ray Sr. officiated and burial was in Mount Hope Cemetery at Covington. – thanks so much to S
