COVINGTON — Melvil Leroy Clauson, age 78, 1015 Eighth St., Covington, died at 7:50 a.m. Tuesday, March 26, at the Fontana Nursing Home in Champaign, Ill., where he had been a patient three weeks. Mr. Clauson was born Feb. 17, 1890 in Pembroke, Ky., the son of Augustus and Versa Carpenter Clauson. He was married to Virgie Murray of Covington June 17, 1962, and she survives. He was a veteran of World War I and had served with the U.S. Army overseas. He was a retired minister of the Church of God. Surviving, in addition to the wife, are: three sons, Melvil of Nashua, N. H., Donald of Danville, Ill., and Danny Oakwood; one step-daughter, Mrs. Eunice Harden of Tipton, Ill.; one step-son, James Murray of Denver, Colo.; four grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; three brothers, Robert of Danville, Ill., Merle of Westville, Ill., and Claude of Chicago; and one sister, Mrs. Emma Vernay of Sarasota, Fla. He was preceded in death by a former wife, Sylvia, three brothers and one sister. The body is at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home where friends may call Wednesday evening and Thursday afternoon and evening. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. The Rev. Edgar Allen and the Rev. Ben Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery here where military rites will be conducted by the Fountain County Old Guard Post 2395, VFW.--waw
